The COMPANY
Tarro is an AI-powered restaurant technology company focused on empowering small, independent restaurants. While large chains operate with sophisticated, vertically integrated tech stacks, most independent operators rely on fragmented tools and unstable labor.
Tarro provides an integrated ecosystem that automates phone ordering, delivery logistics, payments, marketing, and operations. The company primarily serves Chinese-owned American Chinese takeout restaurants across the United States, with growing expansion into pizza and other cuisines. By reducing labor dependency and increasing operational efficiency, Tarro helps restaurants drive incremental revenue and operate with the leverage of much larger brands.
MY involvement
I am one of three product designers supporting Tarro’s full ecosystem of products. As a senior designer, I lead larger, cross-functional initiatives and own high-impact projects from strategy through execution. I also mentor and support more junior designers, providing direction on smaller feature enhancements, reviewing work, and helping maintain design consistency and quality across the platform.
POS System
I am currently leading design for Tarro’s next major product, a Point of Sale (POS) system built specifically for high-volume takeout restaurants. Unlike traditional POS systems optimized for dine-in service, Tarro POS is designed around phone-heavy order flow, frequent modifications and substitutions, limited staffing, and the need for speed under pressure.
The goal is to unify phone, online, and in-store ordering into a single operational surface while reducing cognitive load for agents and front-of-house staff. By tightly integrating with Voice Platform and TarroPay, the POS becomes more than a checkout tool. It serves as the central operating system that connects ordering, payments, delivery, and reporting into one cohesive workflow tailored to independent restaurants.
Tarro POS is designed for fast-paced, high-volume takeout environments where every second matters and staffing is minimal. Front-of-house staff are often multitasking, managing orders, coordinating with the kitchen, and handling payments simultaneously. The interface must reduce cognitive load rather than add to it.
Efficiency is the primary design principle. Core actions are surfaced directly within reach, flows are streamlined to minimize taps, and high-frequency tasks are prioritized over edge cases. The system is structured to match how orders are actually taken in real life, especially in phone-heavy workflows with frequent modifications and substitutions.
Accessibility is equally critical. The interface uses large touch targets, legible typography, clear visual hierarchy, and strong contrast to ensure usability in busy, high-noise environments. Buttons are intentionally oversized to accommodate fast interactions on countertop devices, and text is optimized for quick scanning rather than dense reading. The goal is not just usability, but confidence. Staff should be able to move quickly without second-guessing the system.
By designing with FOH constraints at the forefront, Tarro POS supports speed, reduces errors, and helps small teams operate with greater reliability under pressure.
